Mark - In the Back Yard - With a Lead Pipe

I do laundry once a week and today began the cycle.

I start the dryer and hear a rustling in the dryer vent. I took a flashlight outside to look in the vent and see something in there. I couldn't make out what it was, so I call Markie to the rescue.

Turns out it was a mommy mouse and a nest in the vent. The next had 3 baby mice in it.

Mark formulates a strategy. He goes upstairs and gets a Kroger plastic bag and a glue trap. He then instructs me to turn on the dryer. Nothing. The mommy mouse scurries but doeosn't come out of the next.

Sooooo, Markie goes into the garage, grabs a lead pipe and instructs me to turn the dryer on "high heat". I do as I am instructed.

The mommy mouse grabs one of the babies and runs out of the dryer vent. Mark is beating the lead pipe all over the ground trying to hit the mommy mouse. He fails.

The mommy mouse is under the deck peeking out at Markie and heads back to try and rescue the other two babies. She gets back into Mark's sights and Mark again starts beating the ground with the lead pipe - again - missing the mommy mouse.

By this time, Mark had scraped the nest out of the vent, and the remaining two babies were dead. The mommy mouse scurried back and picked up one of the dead babies, and dropped it once she realized it was dead.

If I had a video camera this whole scenario would have been a riot. That mouse was darned fast and if you couldn't see the mouse, Mark looked like a mad-man outside beating the ground with the lead pipe. Tee Hee.

On the down side, it was kind of sad that even those dirty, disgusting creatures called mice, protect their young.
